Dear IEEE Macau CAS/COM Joint Chapter members,

As Chair (and Founder) of the IEEE Macau Joint-Chapter on Circuits And Systems (CAS)/Communications (COM), in short Joint Chapter on CAS/COMM, I would like to highlight the rich activities that we have held in 2006 and forecast to have in 2007.

Invited seminars, particularly, IEEE Distinguished Lectures, continue to be the core of our activities. In 2006, we have held 13 lectures, (5 in CAS and 8 in COM), and co-held a regional conference with 10 universities from the region (China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan).

In 2007, we already organized 7 lectures, and 5 more are planned for the remaining of this year. Please visit this website frequently in the near future since we are constantly updating it.

During this year, we have 3 important achievements from our Chapter to report:
(i) IEEE has approved the budget of the forthcoming IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems - APCCAS'08, that will take place in Macao between November 30 and December 3, 2008. (www.apccas.org)
(ii) We had the first paper from Macao published in the IEEE Circuits And Systems (CAS) Magazine, in the second quarter of this year. (paper)
(iii) The Board of Governors of IEEE CAS society has selected one member of our local Chapter as GOLD member (Graduate-Of-Last-Decade) Representative from our region (i.e., Region 10 – Asia and the Pacific and Australia) to be present in the IEEE CAS Boarding meeting (only 3 other GOLD members were selected from all the other 9 Regions of IEEE worldwide) that will take place in November in USA and to contribute for the future development of IEEE CAS society.

Finally, I cordially invite you to join us in the upcoming IEEE local activities.

Rui Martins
Chairman
